I’m happy up here in the mountains. There’s no one else around. No one to remind me of the past, no one to ask me about the future. My life is simple, but it’s enough.

Until suddenly, it’s not enough anymore.

Maddy shows up with the company that’ll rip this mountain apart and I know I should hate her, but I can’t. I know I should stay away, but I don’t want to.

Whatever the cost, whatever the consequence, I just want her.

I can close my eyes and pretend that everything will be okay. I can lie to myself. I can believe that even though there’s no way out of this, we’ll get our happily-ever-after.
